2016 Review Part 3 : In twenty images , continued
In completing my look back at 2016 I present a second set of photographic highlights from the past year with commentary. In the first two parts of the review I discuss things in terms of what I’ve learned , and also a first set of highlights .
11/Racing at the British Junior Championships , Nottingham. Being at the front of an umpire’s boat was an experience – and it allowed me to get that bit closer to the crews as they raced in on a hot July weekend and see the considerable efforts expended as this coxless fours crew went for the win.
12/A message of solidarity from a rally organised by the Nottingham People’s Assembly in the wake of the referendum result for Britain to leave the EU in June. More here…
13/Rebecca Bull of MyHRHub working with Impression. Adapting my style to tell the story of one of Nottingham’s top businesses – a different and high-profile challenge back in January but one I took on and did well out of. The rest of the set can be found here.
14/ An excitable character from Mouthy Poets giving a interview (piece-to-camera) to the Nottingham City of Literature videographers as I neatly did the behind the scenes stills! This was from an anniversary party in December celebrating one year since a successful bid was made.
15/ She Walks In Beauty – A Line of Light I felt this was a very imaginative way of raising the profile of Nottingham’s literary heritage and a fitting addition to Nottingham’s urban landscape , and I was more then pleased to work with Nottingham City of Literature’s team to produce a package of images showcasing this – which this is one of.
16/ Golden Fleece , York. I made many takes of the Shambles but I feel this is my favourite in terms of highlighting the craziness and disorder of the architecture – and taken late enough to avoid people passing by Crazy , zany , fun , enjoyable , hectic – that sums up my visit to York.
17/ View from Machon Bank , Sheffield. Taken on a retreat in November and one of the first things I did was check out the view from the hatch window in a nice attic room I stayed in as soon I’d arrived. Watch the sun go down , the lights come up , react and respond with camera as different landscapes would come and go as the lights changed – it helped too there was a helping of rain.
18/ Curves of Tattershall Drive , Nottingham. Being in The Park is almost like being in different city with some very distinctive urban landscapes of its own – managed to have a look in a quiet September evening!
19/ Light Up A Night – Nottinghamshire Hospice – a very good opportunity arose for me to help other through my passion for nightscapes – and have a look at the grounds of Nottinghamshire Hospice , donating my services in the process to a worthy cause.
20/The Dipper , Goose Fair ’16. This was a moment of sheer catharsis , at this point in early October I’d been quite bogged down in day job quite a bit at this point so needed to run off a load of steam and Goose Fair allowed me to do just that.
