24 Hours of London – 3rd/4th Hours – Camden Market
For the third and fourth hours of Photo24 we moved on to Camden Market via tube after leaving Leicester Square – it was ridiculously busy as you could imagine and I ‘d gotten a bit lost trying to find Martin , but it didn’t help there were three entrances to the tube station.
If it was busy at Leicester Square then it was even worse at Camden Town. A massive crowd assembled to watch a narrowboat moored at Camden Lock for example and the pace was heaving – it was apparent why TfL sometimes needed to close the tube station to prevent overcrowding!
Camden Market definitely didn’t disappoint with many colorful stalls and products – as well as tasty sampler foods – a good call from Martin! I’d decided to hang back from the action on the market square as it was far too busy to manouvre with my Lowepro backpack and two D300 bodies.
So I’d decided to shoot mainly from the top deck looking down on the square . Busy crowds got me thinking about using an ND filter to really slow down the action – a very worthwhile experiment , aided by the wire-mesh awning giving me some geometric framing options! 5s @ f/2.8 did the job as I didn’t want too much of the wiremesh to show through while shot at 11mm. Another thing worth playing with was some tight detail shots with the 85mm from top-down , which I was happy with.
