Autumn Cabarets with First Art
A look back at two autumn cabaret events I was commissioned to photograph and document by First Art as part of their involvement with the Creative People and Places program run by the National Lottery Arts Fund.
The events were hosted at South Normanton – featuring a Sunday dinner and was aimed at children especially , with a curry night held at Clay Cross event being targeted towards a more mature audience mix.
With both events performers were Sam Veale – comedy and juggling , Bruce Airhead – with his special trick of disappearing into a balloon , showman Dave Chameleon and also magician Joel Dickinson with a set of card tricks. It was interesting to see how the performers were able to adapt their acts to address the different audiences at each event – and also being able to work as a photographer with the different surroundings – with the Clay cross event happening in a village hall which had little ambient light apart from what was staged.
