Making an impact…
One of the things I recently read through were some excellent thoughts from Alex Mathers of Red Lemon Club on the pitfalls of being admired.
Alex’s main point that You need to be indispensable to people to be successful as a creative is one I completely agree with. For quite a long time I’d lost confidence in my work and fell into the admiration trap , thinking that was going to suffice and that if enough people liked what I did then opportunities would follow. It wasn’t until this time last year when I’d done some work with coach Auriel Majumdar that I was able to think of the creative things I’ve done in terms of making an impact.
This happens to be a good point to talk about the changes I’ve been a part of and introduce some of my most recent projects :
- I’ve given two close friends (pictured above) the opportunity to relive the emotions of their wedding day and ceremony for the rest of their lives.
- I’ve told the story of one of Nottingham’s fastest growing digital businesses (and Nottingham Post business of the year!) in a visual form which they can use to attract future clients to their business.
- I’ve told the story of elite athletes as they chase success at a national championships in a sport which doesn’t always get the publicity it deserves.
- I’ve made a calendar showcasing my night-time visions of Nottingham to showcase the hidden beauty which goes unappreciated in the city , and I’m on the way to be drafting another one.
- Through my images I’ve told the story of a live theatre performance exploring mental health and the impact of depression and helped the theatre company promote the play and secure further performance slots.
- I’ve helped document the inspiration behind a winning design at last year’s Milan Design Expo. (both to be written up!)
What’s next? Who knows but I’m looking forward to helping more people through the work I do – drop me a line here if you’ve got any ideas!
