Puppet Cabaret , with City Arts Nottingham

I was invited by City Arts Nottingham to document and enjoy a wonderful evening of puppetry they had hosted. In this , the work of four local artists – Izzy Hollis , Laura Mathews ,Bryony-McCombie Smith , and Mansfield Dark was showcased . This was part of a wider series of projects I’ve had working with City Arts for the past year candidly documenting and showcasing the events they have in their space , and the creativity their artists bring but the visual impact of this was one I felt was fitting to be featured on my website.

Lamar has photographed numerous events for City Arts. We invited him to document our recent Puppet Cabaret evening, and were delighted with the results.

Puppet Cabaret takes place at the City Arts space in Hockley, Nottingham. This is an intimate space, and tickets generally sell out for this event. It is a potentially awkward space to photograph, with low levels of lighting and lots of people.

Lamar managed capture the spirit of the event with some really beautiful images. As well as being important to document the evening overall, the images are of huge value to the artists. As a scratch night supporting the development of new work, high quality pictures are of real value to the artists as they build their careers and portfolios. 

In the moment, Lamar is very discrete, and doesn’t get between the audience and the work. He is prompt in getting edited images back to us. His images are clever, and he has a sharp eye. At the many different events he has documented for us, he understands what we need the images to say. We value working with him very much, and would heartily recommend him.
